Nearly back to normal

Friday, January 30th, 2009

My kids start school on Monday. Well, my daughter does, my son starts Kindergarten, which is two days a week, and Tuesdays and Fridays are his days, but you get the picture. Time. Beautiful, uninterrupted, sweet time.

I love my kids. And these holidays have been great, but . . . time! Oh, my, goodness! I can’t wait.

The next book I want to write is already making noises in my head. I know I’m coming to the end of a work when I start thinking about the next book. I think its my way of getting my subconscious on the job in advance, which makes starting the book easier. This one will be a pleasure to jump into, because I’ve semi-plotted it in advance and written the first chapter a couple of times, just fooling around with the words.

How does it work for you? Do you start thinking of the next book while finishing off the current WIP, or do you finish and then decide what to write?

Over the hill

Saturday, January 10th, 2009

I love, love, love passing the halfway mark in a manuscript. It is downhill all the way from here, baby. Woohoo! As they say in the local Australian Ikea advert on TV: “Start the car! Start the car!”

I just speed type my way to THE END from here on out. There is no hesitation, or not much of one, there is no second-guessing. Just pedal to the metal.

Nothing like it, in my little writing world. What about you? If you’re a writer, do you find passing a certain point lets loose the floodgates?

Happy New Year

Friday, January 2nd, 2009

Just wishing everyone a fantastic New Year, and a great 2009. I have family staying with me at the moment, and haven’t had much blogging time, but thanks to everyone who made my 2008 so wonderful, and here’s to an even more terrific 2009.
