24 Days of Holiday Giveaways: Day 3

Congratulations to the Day 3 winner: Carol

And here we are at Day 3. Welcome back to those who participated already, and a warm welcome to those just joining in.

We are mixing things up today! My friend Lana, who I often join for writing sprints and general hanging out while writing and drinking coffee (along with fellow SFR author Anna Hackett), and who is also an amazing graphic designer who designed my Sky Raiders series covers, is offering the first book in her Game of Gods series, SOUL THING, for free to anyone who wants to sign up to her newsletter (you can unsubscribe at any time). The link to get it is here.

There is Lana’s awesome handiwork above πŸ™‚

As an additional prize, I’ll be offering an ebook copy of SKY RAIDERS to a commenter (or if they already have it, the next book in the SKY RAIDERS trilogy they don’t have). Anyone who wants a copy of INTENDED, the prequel to the series, has to be a member of my new release notification list, and can sign up to the list in the column to the right of this post to receive their copy.

Lana’s book is an urban fantasy, which is a genre I love. If you haven’t read any urban fantasy, you’re welcome to ask for recommendations in the comments, or if you do read it, what are your favorite series?

Day 3 and I don’t have this one yet. Can’t beleive nobody else has responded, either. Wow! I got to read your historicals. I liked the Regency London trilogy best. Would love to see you return to that genre, and to those characters…they were fun. πŸ™‚

It’s early yet, J.Lee πŸ™‚ – I think it’s only 7.30am EST. Thanks for you kind words about my Regency London series. A Dangerous Madness will soon be available as an audiobook, which I’m very excited about!

My favorite urban fantasy series is the Society for Paranormals by Vered Ehsani. It is hilarious, action-packed, and imaginative. It is set in Nairobi, Kenya, around 1900.
Michelle, I would like to win a copy of Shadow Warrior. Thanks for having this month of contests!

I’m not sure if it qualifies as Urban Fantasy, maybe Futurist Dystopia Romance? But I’ve read a bunch of the J.D. Robb “In Death” books.

One of my favorite fantasy series is the Others series by Anne Bishop which begins with Written in Red; I recommend it highly. Happy holidays all!

Yes, Magic Triumphs is the final book in the Kate Daniels series. I got that direct from the authors, through repeated mentions in their various blogs.

Would love a copy of Sky Raiders. Can anyone define urban fantay for me. There seems to be a really wide range of books covered under that label.

Carol, my understanding is that urban fantasy is technically a subgenre of fantasy (as opposed to paranormal romance, which is a subgenre of romance). Where paranormal romance has the juxtaposition of the ‘normal’ and the ‘paranormal’ as a main lever of conflict and tension in the story, in urban fantasy, the ‘paranormal’ is accepted as ‘normal’. So in urban fantasies like the Kate Daniel series, magic is an accepted and normal part of the world, not something to be kept hidden.

modern times, elves, fairies, dragons and other mythical beasties. That’s my take on it, anyway.
