Helena is our winner for Day 18! Congratulations 🙂
It’s Day 18 and I have a special treat for everyone today. One lucky commenter will win an audio book of GLADIATOR by my good friend, science fiction romance author Anna Hackett.
You can hear a sample of GLADIATOR here.
My question today is do you enjoy audio books? Do you mix them in with reading?

I prefer written books, but I really enjoyed the one audio book I tried. Since I have read Gladiator and it was awesome, I would love to try it in audio! Thank you for doing these giveaways!
Good luck, Christine!
I love audio. I mostly listen to books and read only when there isn’t on audio. That’s how I discovered you. I love Anna Hacket gladiator series. Whoever wins is in it for a treat
That’s great to hear, Olivera! Another of my books (my historical, A Dangerous Madness) has been made into an audiobook, and was just submitted to distributors today. Come back tomorrow, as the prize is an audio giveaway for A Dangerous Madness. 🙂
I love audio books for times when I’m not able to sit and read, they provide the flexibility to do other things while still listening to a good story!
I love podcasts for the same reason, Megan. I get most of my news that way these days 🙂
Audio are good for when I’m driving or out walking. I usually have both the audio and ebook both on the go
That’s the first time I’ve heard of someone switching between the two formats, Helena. That makes so much sense!
Congratulations, Helena, you are the randomly drawn winner! I’ll send your details to Anna so she can get in touch with you.
Thank you
To me, a book has its own voice, and that’s what I hear inside my head when I’m reading. An audio book puts someone else’s voice in the way of that, not to mention that an audio book proceeds at the wrong speed for me. Needless to say, but I have no audio books in my library.
It really isn’t for everyone, J.L. And that’s fine.We’re all different 🙂
I love audiobooks so much! I try to experience as many books as I can n audiobook format. A good narrator makes a book even better than the ebook. Also, I can listen while driving. The Class 5 trilogy is in my top 5 favorite audiobooks. That narrator is so talented with different character voices that it is easier to keep track of which character is which.
Thank you, Heather. Christina Delaine, the Class 5 narrator, recently won an industry award for her narration. She’s awesome!
Have not purchased an audiobook before but, after eye surgery giving it some thought.
Nidia, that sounds like a great idea. Give your eyes a rest!
I only rarely listen to audiobooks, so PLEASE do not enter me into this drawing. I trained myself in college to study and ignore background noises; now I have to work very hard to stay alert and actually listen to an audiobook.
I’m a bit the same, Kareni. I tend to lose track because I go off into my own little world while listening, and can’t remember what the narrator said.
I’m definitely an audiobook lover, at the gym, while driving, doing housework, while shopping and sometimes while working. I’ll love to have Anne Hacket book but I must confess that I have not read her stories before.
I’m the same with podcasts, Helen, mainly because they’re shorter and I can time my housework / shopping trip around the length of time the podcast will take to listen to.
I mostly read eBook format, but there are books where the experience is improved by listening to the audiobook version (examples: P.G. Wodehouse — various narrators; The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy — BBC radio production version of choice, but also the version of the book read by Douglas Adams). And rI’ve listened to Thea Harrison’s “Dragonbound” numerous times. But taste in narrators is so individual that you really have to listen to a segment to decide whether you would like it. (Anne did this exactly right by providing a sound sample).
I think you have to go into this enjoying the audiobooks as a complementary experience (I don’t switch back and forth between text and audio). And, it’s true that if I’m in a hurry to read through a story, I’ll read the eBook. I’m not usually driving around in a car where I used the audio as a “filler” — I really want to listen to it, separately. Just my thoughts, YMMV.
All interesting points, Esther. And I definitely think narrators make a big difference!
