The Music of the Class 5 Series

A big part of the Class 5 series is music. The Grih love singing, and the heroines of the story oblige, some with more confidence than others. I’ve put together a list of the songs from the books, with video clips if possible, so you can listen, too.

Dark Horse (Class 5, #1)

Row, row, row, your boat
Cups – Anna Kendrick (Inspired by the idea of The Flowing Way, the stamping, clapping exercise the Grih practice.)
This is What it Feels Like – Armin van Buuren feat. Trevor Guthrie (Sazo’s favorite song)
Break Free – Ariana Grande (I heard this song so often on the radio while I was writing Dark Horse, and then it turned out to come with a very tongue-in-cheek science fiction music video. How could I possibly have resisted?)
What I Like About You – The Romantics
Break Me Out – The Rescues
Fly Me to the Moon – Frank Sinatra
Dream a Little Dream of Me – The Mamas & the Papas

Dark Deeds (Class 5, #2)

Happy birthday to you
Get Here – Oleta Adams
Always Look on the Bright Side of Life – Monty Python
I Will Survive – Gloria Gaynor (and here is the fun alien animation that inspired Fiona in the first place)

Dark Minds (Class 5, #3)

Bohemian Rhapsody – Queen
Caramel – Suzanne Vega
And She Was – Talking Heads
Frère Jacques
Royals – Lorde

Dark Matters (Class 5, #4)

My Baby Just Cares for Me – Nina Simone
Wuthering Heights – Kate Bush (Have to admit here that even Lucy only knew the chorus to this one :))
Karma Chameleon – Culture Club (Weren’t 90s music videos totally wild?)
Le Freak – CHIC
Mr. Blue Sky – Electric Light Orchestra
The Best Things In Life Are Free – Jo Stafford
Money (That’s What I Want) – Barrett Strong

Dark Class (Class 5, #5)

A True Friend – Muriel’s Wedding, the musical
The Toreador Song – Carmen
Fashion – David Bowie
Ob-la-di Ob-la-da – Beatles
Thunderstruck – AC/DC
Lazy Days – Enya

Epilogue:
Call Me Maybe – Carly Rae Jepson
More Than Words – Extreme

Collision Course (Class 5, #6)

On Top of the World – The Carpenters
